Been a busy month with Foran, Aspen, and upcoming jobs in the North. Servco has not doing well on site and losing work to Welland. I received a call from the International Office about the status of the job. Servco has had a meeting with G Mining with the result of that being if Servco does not keep pace with Welland, and provide a higher quality product they will lose the rest of the scope and be removed from site. They have lost over 5000 hours of electrical scope, they did have a group of layoffs when the Primary Crusher was completed as they do not have the scope in the Paste Plant. I had a meeting with the owners of Servco, stated that I believe this is not soley an issue with our 529 workforce, there are also issues with the management on site, not having a full outlook of work that will affect productivity. Result of the meeting, and the direction from the International Office is we need to turn this job around and make Servco successful. Bottom line is if we lose this job we will lose this contractor.
Chemco is currently sitting around 16 people, will stay there for a couple shifts as work fronts are opening slower than anticipated. We do have people waiting on the list for Aspen.
I have been having talks with Tron for over a year now. They have new management and the general feel is they are much more open to Union Labour than they have ever been. Last week I had meetings on site with them to discuss upcoming work at Denison and Key, currently we have dispatched the first 2 crews to Denison, there will be calls for Key Lake coming soon as well. They have a huge opportunity coming with the possibility ahead with years of work. They want to become signatory to IBEW to make this happen and the time is now to start this. They are also in the running for the entire Wheeler project, and they have a 3-5 year MSA with Cameco.
Eco has a small project coming up at Orano which will take 3 or 4 people for 3 weeks straight, along with some fire alarm work at Cory.
Things are moving forward and we must keep recruiting to fill these jobs. We will be reaching out to 2038 when we are tapped out.
